About Us

Waratah Respite Services is a not-for-profit organisation that provides flexible respite services in Coffs Harbour and the surrounding districts since 1987. We offer centre based social support and respite care in Coffs Harbour and Woolgoolga as well as flexible overnight respite in our Maureen Guthrie Cottage for older people, those living with dementia and their carers.

About the Role

We are currently seeking a Part Time Care Manager/ IPC – Infection Prevention Coordinator to work minimum of 3 days per week.

The Care Manager is  expected to apply the organisation’s vision, mission and values in the performance of this role and the incumbent in the position must possess the ability to work as part of a Senior Management group responsible for assisting the Manager to inform and implement the strategic direction of the business.

The position has primary responsibility for Leading, Managing and Co-ordinating the day-to-day operations of the Residential Service Team. The position relieves the Manager when Manager unavailable or on Leave

The position is also responsible and accountable for clinical leadership, All staff Supervision and the performance management of the casual RN, ENs and Care Service Employees in the team.

The Care Manager must have sound analytical skills, the ability to assess and evaluate client health information, and to plan implement and evaluate the care provided to clients at the Centre. Individualised strength based care and support plans must be developed with clients, carers and significant others and be aimed at facilitating optimal health, independence, wellbeing and socialisation goals.

The Care Manager will be required to be available for on-call after hours on a rotating roster. It is essential that they possess sound clinical, analytical and decision-making skills in order to manage after hour emergencies.

The Care Manager while on-call will be required to exercise sound judgement based on information provided by staff and to direct the staff on the provision of ongoing care. On-call personnel must be prepared to attend the Centre in after hour emergencies and as required. Care Manager will update the Manager at all times for attendances at the facility.

RNs (including the Care Manager) retain responsibility the supervision of team members whilst maintaining accountability for their own actions under the Nursery & Midwifery Board of Australia National Competency Standards.

Selection Criteria 

  • Registered with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse
  • Possesses a current Provide First Aid and CPR Certificate or the capacity to obtain the required qualification within four (4) weeks of the commencement of duty
  • Holds a current unrestricted Drivers Licence
  • Has a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Prior, relevant experience working with frail older people and people living with dementia.
  • A sound understanding of the principles of person centred care and a wellness / enablement approach
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing and clinical care plans in partnership with clients, carers and health care teams, to maximise agreed health, independence, wellbeing and socialisation goals
  • Demonstrated experience in the supervision and performance management of a service team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a Team
  • Ability to demonstrate kindness, care and empathy in interactions with clients and their families/carers and be respectful of each person’s identity, culture and diversity
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated experience in effectively communicating and negotiating with a variety of stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes. Ability to record written information accurately and clearly
  • Understanding of the regulatory framework in which aged care operates.
  • Highly developed organisational skills and the demonstrated ability to manage competing workloads to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competency in the use of a computer, particularly Microsoft Office applications and client management systems
  • A sound understanding of continuous improvement systems
