About Us

Waratah Respite Services is a not-for-profit organisation that provides flexible respite services in Coffs Harbour and the surrounding districts since 1987. We offer centre based social support and respite care in Coffs Harbour and Woolgoolga as well as flexible overnight respite in our Maureen Guthrie Cottage for older people, those living with dementia and their carers.

About the Role

The Team Leader Social Support Services will be expected to apply the organisation’s vision, mission and values in the performance of this role. The incumbent in the position must possess the ability to work as part of a senior management group responsible for assisting the Manager to inform and implement the strategic direction of the business.

The objective of the position is to develop and implement day program activities that reflect the intent of the Aged Care Quality Standards including increasing client choice, reablement and wellbeing. This to be carried out in partnership with clients and family carers.

The Team Leader Social Support Services has the primary responsibility to lead, manage and co-ordinate the day-to-day operations of the day respite service teams.

The Team Leader Social Support Services will monitor the performance of team members to ensure that the work outputs in the teams are efficient and effective, and practices are in line with the WRS policies and procedures.

Essential Criteria

  • Certificate IV in Leisure & Health or willing to obtain it or any other equivalent qualifications
  • Certificate III Individual Support or other equivalent qualification
  • Possesses a current Provide First Aid and CPR Certificate or the capacity to obtain the required qualification within four (4) weeks of the commencement of duty
  • Has received the 2022 Influenza vaccination and willingness to update on an annual basis
  • Has received a minimum 3 dose of the COVID-19 Vaccination
  • Holds a current unrestricted Drivers Licence
  • Has a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • A good understanding of the issues and concerns of frail, aged people, those living with dementia and their carers’ and families and knowledge of the support services available for such groups
  • Proven ability to demonstrate kindness and care in interactions with clients and be respectful of, and embrace each person’s identity, culture and diversity
  • Prior experience working with people who are frail aged or living with dementia and the ability to deliver a structured program of activities designed to motivate, re-enable and enhance independence and meet individual goals and choices
  • Demonstrated high level of organisational skills, proven experience in planning, co-ordinating and delivering services
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to problem solve, negotiate and resolve concerns and conflict. This includes a high level of customer service.
  • Excellent written skills with proficiency in the use of the Microsoft office suite
  • Previous experience in the supervision of staff and performance management systems
  • Ability to work unsupervised and to plan and organise own work and that of the others under your direct supervision to achieve identified objectives and targets.
  • Ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities and ways to encourage others to do the same.
