What is the Access Criteria for the Social Support Service (Day Program)?

a) frail, older people aged 65 yrs or Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 yrs and over
b) regular carers of the above persons

New Clients should contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 to register for services.

What is the daily attendance fee?

The attendance fee is set at:

  • $20 per day for non-packaged clients
  • $35.00 (GST excl.) for Level 1 and 2 Home Care Packaged clients
  • $50.00 (GST excl.) for Level 3 and 4 Home Care Packaged client

Client who are in financial hardship may apply for a reduction in fees.

How do I make a booking for overnight respite in the Maureen Guthrie Cottage?

If you have a current ACCR (aged care client record) booking can be made through Commonwealth Respite & Carelink Centre on 1800 052 222.

You can also make a booking directly through Waratah Respite Services on 02 6648 3610.

What do I do if I don’t have an ACCR?

If you don’t have a current ACCR (aged care client record) please ring My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 and staff will determine your eligibility and arrange an assessment for you.

How much does it cost for overnight respite in the Cottage?

A small nightly contribution fee is set by the Government. The contribution fees is indexed on the 20th March and 20th September each year.
As of 20th March 2019 the fees are:
$51.21 per night  or  $358.47 per week

How long can I stay in the Maureen Guthrie Cottage?

If you are eligible for residential respite you can stay from a minimum of two nights up to a maximum of nine weeks subject to availability.

Extensions to the maximum period can be sought if there are justifiable circumstances.

Can my family and friends visit me when I am in overnight respite?

Yes, we encourage families, friends & carers to visit any time of the day and at evenings.

Refusal of Service  

The management at Waratah Respite Services (WRS) will endeavour at times to accommodate service requests for eligible applicants.

However, WRS reserves the right to refuse service in the following circumstances:

  • the client does not meet the access criteria ie target group specified by funder
  • the client care needs exceed the scope of practice or expertise of care staff
  • the client needs are too complex and would place others in danger
  • the client behaviours cannot be managed appropriately and thus may pose an unacceptable level of risk to others
  • if the level of care needed poses a Work Health and Safety issue for WRS staff
